Today was Phase I of Project Paint, and I think it went well.
vampgyrl and
encmonkey came by in the morning to help me get started. I put
encmonkey to work on the ceiling in the bedroom, because even with an extender pole, I'm too short to paint that high up very efficiently. That left
vampgyrl and I to start painting the dining room. Lucky for me,
insearchofangst came over on Friday night to paint the ceilings in the dining room/living room/kitchen area. We started cutting in, and mostly managed not to get the wall color (Winter Garden) on the celing (Creamy White), but I'll still have to go back and paint over some spots. Also, because we are not professionals, the corners where the walls meet the ceiling are very irregular. But, when compared to the paint job done by the previous owner, it's stellar. I pretty much would have to paint a big X of the wrong color on a wall in order to make it worse. No, seriously. We finished up the dining room, and started cutting in the living room (New Brick).
We got about halfway done before those 2 had to leave, and I was left to my own devices. However,
vampgyrl friend Big Gay J, came over to help. I was very grateful, since 1) I hadn't asked him at all, and 2) there was a misunderstanding about labor in exchange for furniture. But, because he is apparently very cool, he came over anyway and put primer on the bedroom walls. While he was doing that,
moesmith88 called and said that he could help as well. I told him to come on over, not realizing that there wasn't much to do at that point because some areas needed to dry first before other tasks could be started. However, looking over the job that
vampgyrl and I had done in the dining room, I decided that he could be best used fixing our mistakes. He put another coat of paint on the whole room in no time flat, and I was greatly impressed. I'm actually very sorry that I didn't have more for him to do, since he was such a pro.
I finished up the living room and did some preliminary work on the kitchen before I decided that I desperately needed a break and some food. I came home, soaked my aching muscles in a hot bath, and then begged my brother to come and help me do prep work for tomorrow. After some cajoling, he agreed, and I put him to work on taping the ceiling in the bedroom so we can paint it tomorrow (Planetarium), while I started painting the closet. After putting on one coat of paint, and deciding that it was too dark to tell if it needed another (some of the areas were dark beige and gray), we called it quits, did some cleanup and headed home.
Now, I am trying to figure out how I am going to do this all again tomorrow. More importantly, how am I going to go to skate practice for 3 hours and then do this all again? I am so sore. Every muscle in my back and shoulders ache. Even my arms hurt. I hope I remember this in the distant future when I decide to sell the condo. I'll just show it as it is, and not paint anything. Or maybe I'll just put gray primer on everything and advertise it like that. It would be easier than going through all of this again. Well, that or hire people to do it for me.
Man, I'm already irritated with being a homeowner, and I haven't even made my first mortgage payment yet. This does not bode well. I'm sure it will be different once I'm actually living there, though. I hope
