Some bad things and then some good things

So yesterday, the light-headedness didn't go away, and by the time I got to practice I was still kind of dizzy. It was bout night, and only 5 DLFers showed up, which is the least amount of people you need to bout. So, going in with no subs, and trying to bout while also trying not to fall over while just standing or skating in a straight line was interesting to say the least. To add to the dizziness, I also got hit twice really hard in the same jam (from behind, I'm pretty sure, which is illegal) and fell, hitting my head both times. The first fall was minor, and I popped back up to skate back into the pack fairly quickly. The second fall was more spectacular, with my feet completely out from under me, and I landed on my back, smacking my head (with my helmet, of course) onto the rink. I had to roll over and take a moment before getting up just to be sure I could even skate. Luckily, that was near the end of the practice, and there were only a few more jams to get through before I could stop and go home. My head doesn't hurt this morning, and I'm not dizzy anymore, but my neck and upper back hurt, and there will be a rather nice bruise on my butt. Pretty par for the course, in other words.
I've got 2 occasions coming up (one of them being tonight) that call for fancy dress, and I have nothing in my closet that still fits and looks good on me. I made a quick trip to The Frock Shop the other day and found a nice beaded number that fit and was forgiving of my various body faults and didn't cost a million dollars. I noticed that the zipper needed mending, so I made arrangements to have that done overnight and picked the dress up yesterday. When I got it home to try on again, to see what shoes and other accouterments to wear with it, I noticed that the mending caused the zipper to sit in such a way that it caused a lump in the fabric, right at the small of my back. On a less curvy girl, this would probably not be a problem, because the dress would fall differently, but I've got a ghetto booty, and the curve and the offending zipper part are exactly at odds with each other. I sincerely hope she'll take the dress back, even if only in exchange for something else, because I don't need yet another dress that I can't wear. So, for the fancy premier of Blood on the Flat Track: The Rise of the Rat City Rollergirls, I am going to wear what I wore to work today. Black pants and a vintage sleeveless sweater. I will be the most boring rollergirl there. (Hmm. That's pretty par for the course, too. At least I wore my cool shoes, which are resistant to Satan. They say so right on the sole.) However, tonight is the premier of the movie, which will be a lot of fun. I'm excited to see it on the big screen, in all its finished glory.
It's sunny right now, so there is a good chance that the weather will be nice for my rowing class tonight. I'm looking forward to getting back out on the water again. I wonder if we'll row by sixes tonight.

Date: 2007-06-14 09:36 pm (UTC)On the clothing front, I'll be pulling my one dress out of the closet tonight and fighting with it for hours before I ultimately head out in what I'm certain will be jeans and a shirt. I anticipate tears, sweating, cursing and a headache. I feel your pain.

I have a pretty scary number for tonight. I'm worried about the shoes. My damn feet still haven't recovered from the ones I wore to the Roq la Rue opening last Friday yet.
