Sep. 4th, 2006 03:09 pmAmong the merchandise that the Texas Rollergirls brought with them to Bumbershoot was a DVD of the DLF vs. Honkey Tonk Heartbreakers match. Of course, I had to buy it. It's really good, although the most amazing play of the night wasn't captured. In one jam, Ann R. Kissed wiped out into the audience taking out 2 people and their chairs and their beers, got up and still got lead jammer. I didn't see my own pretty spiffy jammer take-out, either, but oh well. In fact, I remember being more effective than I looked in the video overall. My strength lies in moving through the pack to get in front of skaters and slowing them down, not in spectacular hip checks, so I guess that doesn't really translate well to film. I do have a pretty cool spill in the highlights section, where one of the Heartbreakers pushed me out of bounds with her forearms. Not my most shining moment.
One of the announcers kept saying "The Derby Liberation Front, not to be confused with the Liberation Front of Derby," which I find thoroughly amusing.
On my trek about the city to do my errands today, I bought pants without having to go to the SuperMall like I feared, and got some boxes so I can start packing. I'm going to start with the books and the clothes I don't wear right now (I think it's safe to pack my fur coats, for instance) so that I'm not stuck packing everything all at once when the time comes to actually move. I'll have to live with boxes stacked all around my apartment, but if I pretend that I'm building a fort, it'll be cool. I got a bunch of small boxes, because I'm boxing up the heaviest things first, so if you have boxes of various other sizes, I'd love to take them off your hands.
